Migrant Ministry


The Church, through its parishes of San Bernardino is challenged to reach out, become aware, and understand the realities of family life in our migrant communities. Even as the parishes are seeking to understand their needs, parishes should respond with creative and flexible models of catechesis that addresses the needs of various members of the family (adults, young adults, youth and children). Catechists who answer the call to this ministry will receive specialized formation and commit themselves to be catechetical liaison with the parish. Local parishes have the challenge of evangelization by integrating and welcoming the migrant population into parish life, parish catechetical programs and parish sacramental celebrations.
1. Each parish/cluster/vicariate will form certified catechists who will respond to the age specific formation needed by the ministry.

2. The parishes/clusters/vicariates will develop creative models of catechesis to meet the various needs of the ministry.

3. Migrant workers and their families come into the diocese of San Bernardino for
limited lengths of time.

4. It is a valuable opportunity for the Church of San Bernardino to welcome, evangelize
and serve our brothers and sisters who are here to work as temporary laborers in our
